Cookie Policy

Two small, strictly necessary cookies and a bit of local storage to save unfinished answers. Here is exactly what each does, and everything we don’t do.

01
One session cookie
askwise_session keeps customers signed in for 30 days, or until they sign out.
02
One respondent cookie
Only when a survey allows one response per device. No answers inside.
03
Progress stays local
Unfinished answers are kept in your browser so you can resume later.
04
No trackers, no banner
No ads or third-party analytics, so nothing to consent to.

01The short version

Askwise uses as little browser storage as it can, and only for things the product needs to work:

  • Customers who sign in get one cookie, askwise_session, which keeps them signed in.
  • Respondents get a cookie only if the survey owner has switched on “one response per device”, and their unfinished answers are saved in their own browser so they can pick up where they left off.

We don’t use advertising, retargeting, social-media or third-party analytics cookies, and we don’t load tracking pixels, on getaskwise.com or on the surveys we host. That is why Askwise shows no cookie banner: there is nothing optional to consent to.

02What cookies and local storage are

Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store and send back on later requests. They let a site remember things such as whether you are signed in. Local storage is a similar browser feature that keeps data on your device without sending it to the server automatically. This policy covers both.

03The cookies we set

This is the complete list:

Cookies set by Askwise
NameWho gets itPurposeDurationAttributes
askwise_sessionCustomers, when they sign inStrictly necessary. Keeps you signed in. Holds a random token; our server stores only a hash of it, with your browser's user-agent.30 days, or until you sign outFirst-party, httpOnly, SameSite=Lax, Secure
aw_r_<survey>Respondents, only on surveys with “one response per device” switched onStrictly necessary for that setting. Set when you submit a response and records only that this browser has already answered this survey. It contains no answers and no identifier.1 year, or until you clear cookiesFirst-party, httpOnly, SameSite=Lax, Secure

httpOnly means scripts on the page cannot read the cookie. SameSite=Lax means it isn’t sent with most cross-site requests, which helps protect against cross-site request forgery. Secure means it is only sent over HTTPS.

04Saving unfinished answers

When you answer a survey, Askwise saves your progress in your browser’s local storage: which question you are on and the answers you have given so far. If you close the tab or lose your connection, you can come back and carry on without starting again.

  • The saved progress stays on your device and is cleared when you submit the response.
  • It is specific to one survey on one browser; other websites can’t read it.
  • You can remove it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for getaskwise.com.

05What we don’t do

  • No advertising, retargeting or social-media cookies.
  • No third-party analytics cookies or analytics scripts.
  • No tracking pixels or browser fingerprinting.
  • No cookies for visitors who aren’t signed in, other than the respondent cookie described above.
  • No cross-survey tracking: we don’t link a respondent’s answers across different surveys or customers.

06IP addresses and rate limiting

Without using cookies, we use the IP address of incoming requests transiently to apply rate limits, for example on sign-in attempts and survey submissions. These counters cover short windows, are held in memory, and are not used to track anyone across sites or over time. IP addresses are never stored with survey responses.

Survey owners see aggregate daily view counts for their surveys. These are simple counters and don’t use cookies or identify individual visitors.

07Surveys embedded on other websites

Customers can embed Askwise surveys on their own websites. The embedded survey uses the same storage described above and nothing more. The website hosting the embed is run by the customer, and it may set its own cookies under its own policy, which is outside our control.

08Controlling cookies

You can delete or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings.

  • If you block askwise_session, you can still browse getaskwise.com and answer surveys, but you won’t be able to sign in. Signing out deletes the cookie and ends the session on our server.
  • If you block the respondent cookie, you can still answer surveys, but surveys limited to one response per device may not be able to recognise that you have already answered.
  • If you block local storage, surveys still work, but your progress won’t be restored if you leave and come back.

09Changes

If we ever add a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires. The “Updated” date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
